SENATE OFFICE, Manila, July 11, 2011-Senator Edgardo J. Angara, chair of the Senate Committee on Education, Culture and Arts manifested full support in the recent call of Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Armin Luistro for increased legislative and budgetary support for the education sector, explaining that he is in favour of K+12 of the government as the 1st step in educational reform.
Angara agreed in the statement of Luistro that resource gaps have been the major obstacle in pursuing reforms, particularly in implementing the K+12 Basic Education Plan by 2013.
“I agree in the forms of textbooks, classrooms and school buildings have resulted in for instance, larger class sizes that make learning more challenging for both teachers and students,” Angara said, saying that the officially approved class size in the Philippines is 60 students compared with Malaysia’s 31.7, Thailand’s 22.9, and South Korea’s 34.7.
The Senator said that investing in roads and bridges is vital to our overall development – but so are investments in our human capital, adding that the country has the lowest per head investment in education among our economic peers in Southeast Asia.
He noted that the first major step we could take towards reform is the K+12 plan, but that is not enough; thus, to equip young Filipino pupils with the skills and overall readiness that will help them get into and stay in school, Angara sponsored the Early Years Act and Kindergarten Education Act.
Angara also supports adding to more years to basic education to decongest a curriculum which tries to cram 12-years worth of learning into 10, as well as bring the country's standards on par with international norms, such as the Washington Accord for engineering professionals and Bologna Accord for European industries.
“Simultaneously, it is imperative that we come up with a better financing system and unburden families from huge education costs especially in higher learning. Compared to our Asian neighbors, almost 85 percent of education costs in the Philippines is shouldered by the parents. In Japan and Korea, families cover less than 20 percent,” Angara said where he is also pushing for the passage of the Congressional Oversight Committee for Education or EDCOM.
“I challenge my colleagues in Congress to be united in working for a comprehensive review of our education system and started to move on towards its genuine reform so that our Filipino graduates will be internationally competitive,” Angara said. (Jason de Asis)

What? I am not in favor of it. As parents, this is another burden for us in paying our kids tuition fees. Another year in high school will ruin our finances!!! They should go in college not another year for high school. It is better for the government to put up more class room buildings and not K+12!!1
Anong magandang bukas sa K-12? para sa mga susunod na henerasyon at ng mga bata nagapang na sa kalye dahil sa matinding kahirapan!!!
Palalalain lamang ng K12 ang kalunoslunos na kalagayan ng edukasyon. Dagdag budget para sa edukasyon hindi dagdag pasakit!
No to K+12 ni P-Noy
Ang K+12 ay programa ni P-Noy para sa basic education. Ginawang mandatory ang kindergarten at magdadagdag ng dalawang taon sa highschool na tatawaging Senior Highschool. Bakit kailangang tutulan ang K+12 program ni P-Noy? 1. Hindi totoong itataas ng K+12 ang mababang kalidad ng kasalukuyang estado ng edukasyon sa Pilipinas. Sa kasalukuyan ay napakalaki ng kakulangan sa pasilidad, kaguruan, upuan at textbooks na siyang dahilan ng mababang kalidad ng edukasyon. Palalalain lamang ng K+12 ng kasalukuyang krisis tulad ng nagaganap ngayong pagpasok ng Hunyo. Walang pasilidad na pinatayo para sa mga kindergarten kaya't nagsisiksikan ang 40-60 na bata sa maliit na kwarto. Kontraktwal ang mga guro at kulang sa kagamitan. 2. Dagdag gastusin ito para sa mga magulang. 3. Ito ay kabahagi ng Labor Export Policy ng gobyerno. Ang lalamanin ng Senior Highschool ay mga vocational courses. Itutulak na maging semi-skilled workers ang mga kabataan para sa pangangailangan ng dayuhang bansa. Ito ang hakbang ng gobyerno sa kawalan ng trabaho sa bansa, sa halip na itulak ang tunay na reporma sa lupa na magiging batayan ng pambansang industriyalisasyon na siyang gagawa ng maraming trabaho para sa mga mamamayang Pilipino. Ano ang maaaring gawin para tutulan ang K+12 ni P-Noy? 1. Ibahagi/ikwento/ibalita sa iba ang paninindigan natin sa K+12. 2. I-like at ipa-like sa iba pang mga kakilala ang fanpage na ito. 3. Sumali sa No to K+12 Alliance. Maaaring sumali ang organisasyon, student council, publikasyon at iba pang samahan sa alyansa. Maaari rin naman sumali ang isang indibidwal. 4. Sumama sa mga aktibidad at pagtitipon na ipapaskil sa page na ito. 5. Sumali sa makabayang organisasyon ng mga kabataan na naglalayong pagsilbihin ang talino't kagalingan ng mga Pilipino para sa bayan. Naglalayon ng tunay na kalayaan at pagtanggal sa kontrol ng dayuhan sa ating bansa. - ang League of Filipino Students.
Favor po ako sa K+12 program ng pamahalaan para maging globally competitive tayo!!!Kailangan natin ng reporma sa edukasyon upang makasabay tayo sa mga mauunlad na bansa lalo na pagdating sa teknolohiya.
Huwag po nating suportahan ang mga front ng CPP-NPA. Ang League of Filipino Students, BAYAN, ANAKBAYAN, BAYAN MUNA ay mga front ng CPP-NPA upang isabotahe ang anumang magandang programa ng bansa. Gusto nilang ibagsak ang ating gubyerno. Huwag sumama sa mga makabayan kuno na organisasyon.
